11条自然村依次可数作河东村、河南村、中间村、草龙、沙港、港上村、港下村、黎村、红联、吉老村、吉新村。占地3.25平方千米，户数1210，人口6780，耕地约3.23平方千米，以水稻为主，兼种蔬菜[1]。
1950年起成立乡政府，1958年起成立大队，1983年起成立港头乡，1986年起改称居委会，1989年起改称港头管理区，属河堤镇；其后1997年河堤镇撤销，并归安铺镇，1999年起改称港头社区居民委员会[1]。
