地名由来[edit]

改革开放后，水口镇政府在旧城区以东新划出一个管区，因位置在新区而得名新市。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

新市居委会成立于1986年，1989年改作管理区，当时隶属开平县水口镇；开平1993年撤县设市后，它归开平市水口镇，现用的居委会名称自1999年起使用。[1]
