东方村是开平市沙塘镇东北部的行政村，距镇政府1公里，下设13个村民小组，2756人、744户，耕地1300亩。[1]

地名由来[edit]

新中国成立后，东塘、小坑、礼乐、湾里等自然村合并成乡，按当时的时代背景定名东方。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清代在开平县平康都的范围内，到民国时期归第一区长沙塘乡，1949年后仍归长沙塘乡，1955年归长沙塘区。1961年编入苍城公社，名东方大队，翌年改隶沙塘公社。[1]

1984年设东方乡；1992年起隶属沙塘镇，名东方管理区；1999年定为东方村民委员会。[1]

经济[edit]

村内缺少可用土地，2009年集体收入4.8万元，主要来自出租房屋和老人娱乐场；农民人均年收入6309元。[1]

荣誉[edit]

东方村创建了江门市「美丽庭院」示范村，镇里的党建观摩路线也经过东方村的乡间村道。[2]
