地名与沿革[edit]
社区因位于原报美村之东而得名。[1] 据博雅地名网所载说法，南宋末年文天祥兵败后，其胞弟带着儿子文应麟在埔尾设围村并建起文氏大宗祠，埔尾后来改称报美。[1] 此后名称几经更替：高级农业合作社时期（1957年）叫东方社，人民公社时期（1958年）叫东方生产大队，改革开放后成了东方村民委员会，到1993年才有了宝安区松岗镇东方村民委员会的全称。[1]
人口与经济[edit]
据2026年的社区介绍，东方社区管辖面积7.59平方千米，管理人口约7.65万，户籍居民只占约0.88万；下辖11个自然村和一个小区，辖有12家股份合作公司，工矿企业共1400家，规模以上的有120家。[2] 2022年8月，社区入选「第二批深圳市绿色（宜居）社区」；2019年9月列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
文化与古迹[edit]
社区内的文氏大宗祠为宝安区文物保护单位，始建于明洪武年间，祠内设文天祥纪念馆。[3] 2026年1月，社区党委发布《东方社区志》。[4]
