村名由来：旧时村里山多坑多，山坡遍植杉树，因此叫杉坑。[1]
建制沿革，由近及远：1999年4月起称村民委员会至今；1989年设杉坑管理区；1987年称杉坑村民委员会；1983年设杉坑乡；20世纪70年代起设杉坑大队；1958年属棉二大队。[1]
经济[edit]
主要经济作物为金柚。[1]
荣誉：2019年9月进入「2018年广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」名单；广东省爱国卫生运动委员会在2017年10月把它列入「第一批广东省卫生村」。[1]
