历史沿革[edit]
乾隆年间，沙田农民来此搭寮耕种，罗湾、北湾、新前、深水湾等聚居点合起来统称莲子塘。民国时属睦洲乡。建国初期曾与腰股、东南环同属莲腰乡；1961年脱离腰股后，下设罗湾、北湾、新前三个大队，1982年罗湾、北湾并为罗北大队。[1]2005年起，原新前村与莲子塘村合署办公。[1]
地名由来[edit]
村前原有一个大池塘，盛产莲藕，据说味道甜美，在广东、香港和澳门都有名气，因此得名。[2]
人口与经济[edit]
村内总人口1850人，党员70名，全村总面积3695亩，其中耕地2863亩，水稻1129亩，鱼塘1650亩，村民收入以鱼塘承包为主，养殖以南美白对虾为主。[1]2026年1月，该村获评广东省第二批“百千万工程”典型村。[1]
