牛古田村是新会区睦洲镇北部的行政村，北接江海区，西邻礼乐一带，东隔西江与大鳌镇相望，下辖8个村民小组。[1]
地名由来[edit]
村落一带地形像一头公牛的臀部，旧时习称“牛牯臀”，后取同音字，写成“牛古田”，以避俗称。[2]
人口与经济[edit]
据百度百科所载，全村面积2190亩，有410户、1780余人。[1]村里以水产养殖为主，有1650亩鱼塘耕地和450亩工业园，养殖品种以南美白对虾和桂花鱼为主；并对2300多亩低产鱼塘做过改造，采用企业带基地、基地联农户的模式；另规划了牛古田工业小区，用地约3.9万平方米。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
民国时期这里属第四区外海乡。1951年，牛牯臀与东环、新沙合为第四区幸福乡，1952年划入第九区，称新沙乡；1959年新沙管理区下设的大队中有牛古田。[3]
