村名由来：位于新溪港的末端，本叫港尾村，潮汕话中“港”与“广”、“尾”与“美”谐音，写作广美。^[1]

据历史沿革，元至元六年（1340年）有先人到此建村；村情简介则称约建于1360年间。^[1]

公社化时期属光锋公社，光锋公社拆分后归灶浦公社；1984年改乡，1986年设村委会。^[1]
