村名由来：位置在北洋村以东一里，故名东里。^[1]

明弘治十八年（1505年），陈氏先人从福建莆田迁来建村。^[1]

1958年先属光锋公社，随后归金玉公社；1984年改乡，1986年设村委会。^[1]

据村情简介，全村耕地585亩，辖2个自然村。当地主要出产香蕉。近年的荣誉和入选情况：2026年3月被认定为「广东省第三批“百千万工程”典型村镇」。^[1]
