新兴街道是广东省揭阳市榕城区下辖的街道，位于揭阳市区中心一带，下辖8个社区。东面与榕东街道相接，西至东风河，南以榕江南河为界，北抵进贤门大道。[1][4]

街道辖区内有进贤门城楼和甲东里两处文物建筑，前者是揭阳古城的标志性城门，后者是东郊社区的三壁连民居建筑群。[1][2][3]

历史沿革[edit]

这一带历史上与渔湖之间的隶属关系多次变动。1950年11月，义和一地由渔湖改归榕城管辖，并与东郊乡合组为松义乡；1953年夏，松义乡又改归渔湖；1956年，渔湖松义乡的东郊村析归榕城；1958年9月，渔湖的义和村划入榕城公社。[1]

「新兴」这一名称，据博雅地名网所载，缘于街道处在揭阳市区中心，并寓意新形成的发展中心。1992年6月，街道在榕城区内设立，名称一直沿用至今。[1]

人口[edit]

博雅地名网据第七次全国人口普查结果载，2021年6月公布的街道人口为4.89万人，在榕城区各街道乡镇中居第6位，平均每平方千米约14773人。同一页的概况又载人口为5.0545万人，未注明年份，与前一数字不一致，本条目以带年份的数字为准。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

进贤门位于新兴路口，博雅地名网将其列为本街道的名胜。门楼明天启元年（1621年）由知县曾应瑞在旧址重建，为城门、城楼与亭台组合而成的单体建筑，通高16.77米，纯杉木结构。明清时用作报更之所，「谯楼晓角」是揭阳八景之一。2015年12月10日，它获公布为第八批广东省文物保护单位。[1][2]

甲东里在东郊社区，清同治十年（1871年）始建，2010年被公布为广东省第六批文物保护单位，详见该社区条目。[1][3]
