1950年设龙潭乡，隶属大沟人民公社。1959年划归新洲公社，1987年设新洲管理区，1999年改设龙潭村委会，此后沿用至今[1]。

2019年9月，该村列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；2023年4月，该村入选省级乡村治理示范村创建单位（2022年度）；2024年1月，被确定为2023年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」。2020年8月，该村入选首批广东省「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村，产业为柑桔[1]。
