清光绪年间（约1877年），洪姓人家自广东开平及阳东合山镇迁来此地建村，取名石岗。1951年设石岗乡，1959年划入新洲公社，1983年改设乡，1987年撤乡后设管理区，1999年改设村委会[1]。
2019年12月，石岗村列入第二批国家森林乡村名单；2026年1月，获评广东省第二批「百千万工程」典型村[1]。
