望上村在汕头市潮南区陇田镇东北部，北与东华村隔溪相望，东接井都镇双山村，西邻芝兰村，古称后庵埠。清嘉庆十八年（1813年）建寨，取寨门匾「望之严然」「上迎薰风」中的字得名。村内有清乾隆四年（1739年）的望上桥和清光绪年间的天主教堂。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

陈氏是福建福州府闽县陈安的后裔，明初陈铁峰迁到普宁桥柱，到四世祖陈清隐（明嘉靖初年）才迁来此地创业。1958年属新东望大队，1975年新东望大队分成东华、望上两队，1983年划入东华乡，1986年设村委会。[2]

名胜[edit]

望上桥由郑毓琼于清乾隆四年建成，是当年峡山都与隆井都之间的交通要道。光绪二十四年（1898年），法国神甫魏大同在村里建起天主教堂；本村神甫陈时臬于1985年将其扩建，并取名「原道堂」。望上井曾是全村唯一的饮水来源。[1]

经济与侨乡[edit]

耕地662亩，种水稻、甘薯；织袜业有袜厂8家，陈耀齐是沙陇织袜业的创始人之一。旅居泰国的侨胞陈通立在1986年捐资，建成成宝学校，并出资改造水利设施。[1][2]
