西樵村在东涌镇西部，蕉门水道与沙湾水道交会处，早先叫西樵沙或新十村，包括西樵涌、横滘两个自然村，2006年由灵山镇划入东涌镇。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

村立于清代。此后归属屡变：1949至1952年隶榄核乡（村称新十村），1952年下半年转大乌乡，1953年入双翼乡，1954年起归灵山；1960年成立西樵大队，1984年称乡，1987年设村民委员会，最后在2006年1月25日划入东涌镇。[1][2]

堤围与抗日旧事[edit]

大坳围、西樵围于1776年筑成，西樵涌西岸的北斗围筑于1876年。1938年11月，日军一艘浅水舰驶入沙湾河道，在大涌口搁浅，当地沙湾、西樵、大坳等地的数百名抗日自卫队员前来夹击。西樵村曾两度决堤，分别在1974年6月和1994年6月17日；1995年大堤按“百年一遇”标准重建。[2]

龙舟[edit]

1987年，西樵、上坭、雁沙三村各自筹款购置国际标准龙船，参加番禺县首届禺山杯龙舟赛，西樵男子队获第三名；次年西樵男队与首次参赛的女队再度参赛，女队同样获第三名。[2]

人口与经济[edit]

据村情介绍，全村面积3.1平方千米，耕地3018亩，872户、3683人；经济以农业为主，是广州市蔬菜专业村，2020年8月西樵节瓜列入「首批广东省“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村」，工业企业25家。[1][2]
