沙公堡村位于东涌镇东南部，东隔江同石楼镇清流村、沙南村相对，南至黄阁镇新海村和东风农场；由上八学、下八学、沙尾、沙公堡等自然村组成。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

村中的说法有两种。一说初筑堤围时白鹤聚集觅食，围名曾叫上、下白鹤围，后因八名学子为争地界打官司，改称上八学围、下八学围。[2]另一说沙公堡又名虾公堡，早年站在涌边埗头就能捕到鱼虾，叫虾公埗围，谐音成了沙公堡。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

沙公堡建国初期属沙鼻乡，1953年属石排乡，1958年归三沙大队，1971年独立为沙公堡大队，1984年改乡，1987年改设村民委员会。下围尾曾有一座青砖水泥砌成的碉堡炮楼，1958年前后被拆除。[2]

人口与经济[edit]

据村情介绍，全村面积2.9平方千米，耕地2827亩，874户、总人口3032人。以农业为主，“沙公堡水瓜”是该村的一村一品农产品；2013年全村工业产值277万元、农业产值1226万元。[2]
