西边村在赤坭镇的西南部，下辖13个村民小组，博雅地名网载总人口1721多人（未注明年份），面积约4.78平方千米。[1]村址在山前大道赤坭路段旁，距镇区约18公里，是镇里较偏远的村之一。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清代这里建有一座西城，村庄建在城的一侧，又在赤坭圩的西面，所以叫西边。西城后来被毁，至今仍留有残迹。此后田头、狗陂林、岗头等村相继建立，西边分南、北二社。1952年合并为西边乡，1987年设立西边村委会，先隶属赤坭区公所，当年3月起归赤坭镇人民政府管辖。[1]

经济[edit]

村里是丘陵地带，集体经济靠出租给胶厂、胶管厂、瓦厂、灰厂等企业的场地；种植水稻、花生，鱼塘养殖四大家鱼。[1]

著名人物[edit]

夏重民（1885—1922）为西边村人，家境贫寒，少年时被送入广东孤儿院，后在义育学堂任教。[2]
