新围社区位于厚街镇中心区东部，在横岗水库上游，大岭山森林公园脚下，辖区面积15.6平方千米，辖下九个自然小组。博雅地名网的镇页作新围村面积15.2平方千米。[1][2]

迁入与立村[edit]

据社区网页，清康熙六年（1667年），五华县人李向华始迁罗定埔，同时戴姓三兄弟迁居高排。立村初期，村中以李、戴两姓为主。[1]

建制沿革[edit]

民国末年，此地先后属濂平乡与环治乡。1949年为大迳乡二区，后改十二区。1958年10月成立人民公社，属大迳营；1959年建大队。1988年至1992年改为管理区，1993年至2010年为村委会，2010年底改为社区，下辖九个村民小组。[1]

人口[edit]

至2010年，户籍人口共1146户、4521人，此外另有2816名外来暂住人员。李姓居多，戴、陈、欧阳、钟、廖等姓次之。[1]

自然环境[edit]

社区处于大岭山森林公园脚下，四周被龙谭、灯心堂、禾寮窝与大溪四座水库环抱。山地上出产荔枝、龙眼、蜂蜜与大岭山红茶，是居民休闲与游览的好去处。[1]
