淮洞村为梅县区水车镇所辖行政村，村名有一则关于“怀”字的传说。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网所记传说，旧时村口有一块大石，形似孕妇，故取“怀”字，梅县话“淮”与“怀”同音；又因村口窄、里面宽，像一个山洞，合称淮洞。[1]清代归嘉应州龙文堡，1941年为第二区龙文乡辖地；1987年设淮洞管理区，1999年起为淮洞村委会。[1]2019年9月，村列入「2018年广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位名单」。[1]
