镇隆镇是广东省茂名市信宜市西南部的一个镇，处在鉴江上游东江河与西江河的汇流处，下辖2个社区和21个行政村（社区）。镇区一带自唐武德四年（621年）起就是信宜县城所在，直到1952年县治迁往东镇，故留下窦州古城这片古城、古书院的遗存。[1][2]
2021年第七次全国人口普查时，全镇人口为4.21万，在信宜各镇街中排第10位。镇隆镇2012年入选「第三批广东省历史文化名镇名村」，2014年被确定为全国重点镇。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
镇隆一带是信宜旧县城所在。信义县设于唐武德四年（621年），县址即在今八坊村一带；贞观八年（634年）起至北宋熙宁四年（1071年），这里还兼作窦州州府，“窦州古城”的称呼由此而来。清顺治十三年（1656年）增修城垣，设东、西、南、北四门；民国二十八年（1939年）为方便抗战期间疏散，城墙被拆除，只留下北门和南门文明门。[2][3]
1952年信宜县城迁到东镇后，这里降为乡镇。据博雅地名网所载，镇隆在1958年建公社，1983年改为区，1984年建镇。[1]
地理环境[edit]
镇隆镇位于信宜市境西南部，距市区中心约18公里；东江河和西江河在镇内汇合，注入鉴江，207国道由南至北穿过全镇。最南的北畔村与高州市的谭头一带相邻。[1]
关于镇名，当地传说镇区附近的祁龙径山山势起伏如龙，“龙”“隆”音近，故名镇隆。[1]
经济[edit]
镇隆是侨乡，特产有鉴江红糯、镇隆鱼古等；2020年8月，镇隆的怀乡鸡被列入「第二批广东省“一村一品、一镇一业”专业镇」名单。德乔村近年引进毛纺织企业10多家，西岸、大水坡两村则以优质稻入选省级“一村一品”专业村。[1]
文化[edit]
2018年5月，镇隆镇凭六双花灯入选「2018至2020年度广东省民间文化艺术之乡」。窦州古城一带还保存着年例、飘色、木偶、采茶歌舞、游神等民俗活动。[1][3]
名胜古迹[edit]
窦州古城位于八坊村，现存面积约1.5平方公里，2020年8月被评为「国家4A级旅游景区」。城中保存有13所古书院、7间公祠和2间公馆，以及文明门、信宜学宫等；文明门、起凤书院和信宜学宫（大洪国王宫旧址）三处已列入省级文物保护，学宫的公布时间是1989年6月。具体介绍见八坊村条目。[2][3][4][5][6][7]
此外，据博雅地名网，镇内的自然景致有温泉吐玉和凤岗春晓；古城内的藜照书院为市级文物保护单位。[9][11]
镇内的文明村在2013年8月被列入「第二批中国传统村落」名录。[10]
著名人物[edit]
华侨企业家李季濂（1877—1936）生于镇隆大路街；其子李孝式后为马来西亚的开国元勋之一，窦州古城内有李季濂故居改建的纪念馆。[3][8][2]
