美林社区位于汕头市潮南区两英镇南面，东西向的美鹤大道穿过社区中心，与古溪、墙新相邻，面积0.6平方千米[1]。其前身是明成化年间所创的草尾林村[1]。

名称与沿革[edit]

此地原是一片草地和树林，村名草尾林，雅称草美林，后简称美林[1]。创村在明成化年间（1465—1487年）[1]。

此后几十年里，它先是古围乡的一部分，公社化时并入美新大队；1983年改美林乡，1986年成立居委会，1992年曾短暂称管理区，至1999年复称居委会[1]。

全社区4580人、770户，只有耕地161.28亩，3个村民小组，在镇里属人多地少的一类[1]。2009年的工业总产值为2580万元，辖内有制衣、针织、薄膜等十多家企业[1]。
