大洞村位于乐昌市乐城街道辖区内，属行政村。村名的由来是，大洞是该村委会下辖最大的自然村。村的建制始于1958年的大洞大队；1983年改为大洞乡，1987年定名大洞村委会，1989年一度称大洞管理区，1998年复称大洞村委会，此后未变。[1]

2024年3月，它受命名为2023年「广东省卫生村」。[1]
