张溪村位于乐昌市乐城街道辖区内，属行政村。村的建制始于1958年的张溪大队；1983年改为张溪乡，1987年定名张溪村委会，1989年一度称张溪管理区，1998年复称张溪村委会，此后未变。[1]
2022年1月，省乡村振兴局把它定为2021年「乡村治理示范村」创建单位；2020年8月，它榜上首批「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村名单，品种是香芋；2024年3月又受命名为2023年「广东省卫生村」。[1]
张溪香芋以张溪村所种最具代表性，当地种植香芋已有400多年历史，2008年10月31日获批地理标志产品保护。[2]
