山美村属广州市增城区中新镇，是镇辖的行政村。博雅地名网所载村情记其面积9平方千米，耕地约3200亩，户籍人口3700人（680户），流动人口500人，下辖12个自然村、12个村民小组。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

村子位于南昆山脉西端的尾部，起初叫“山尾”，后来觉得“尾”字不雅，改作“美”；另有一种说法，是有仙鹤飞来觅食，人们循鹤迹到此，见山清水美而定居。[1]

山美在解放初期隶属新三区的三和乡；1954年办起初级社，1958年公社化后成为中新公社下的山美大队。1983年改称乡，1987年设山美村民委员会，属中新镇。[1]

文化教育[edit]

村里修建了陈氏祠堂，祠内设文化活动中心并藏有图书；借助引进的捐助资金，建成了山美刘庆祺小学。[1]

荣誉[edit]

  • 广东省「百千万工程」典型村（第二批，2026年1月获评）。[1]
  • “广州市美丽乡村”（2022年度，2023年8月获评）。[1]
  • 广东省卫生村（2017年10月由省爱卫会授予，属第一批）。[1]
