棠厦村是荔城街道面积较大的行政村，辖内约12平方千米，有21个自然村、26个村民小组，户籍人口约3650人、662户。[1]
博雅地名网记录的村名来历是：村民为纪念开居始祖甘棠，取名棠下，粤语「下」「厦」同音，后写作棠厦。村民的开居始祖约三百多年前从新丰县迁来。[1]
经济[edit]
村以种养为支柱，建有数十个蔬菜大棚；2021年9月，棠厦村以龟鳖养殖入选第二批广东省「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村名单。村里还成立了醒狮队。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
棠厦高级社办于1957年，公社化后称棠厦大队（1962年）。1983年恢复为乡，1987年1月撤区建镇，乡改为村。[1]
荣誉[edit]
棠厦村是广东省乡村治理示范村；2026年1月，获评广东省第二批「百千万工程」典型村；该村是广东省爱卫会2021年12月评定的卫生村之一。[1][2]
