棠村是荔城街道的行政村，在城区北部、增派公路旁，离市区约3千米，有16个经济合作社，约650户、3100人。[1]

村名的来历见于博雅地名网：宋朝时村民来此居住，原已有唐姓人在此种园，原名唐屋园，后来王姓扩大村场，唐姓人迁出，「唐」改写为「棠」。[1] 荔城街的农业产业园区建设，以棠村及周边片区为重点。[2]

全村耕地约2500亩，其中水田2000亩，村民收入以种养业和外出打工为主。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

解放初属庆中乡；棠村和布心在1957年各办一个高级社，1958年公社化时并为棠村大队。1983年恢复为乡，1987年1月撤区建镇，乡改为村。[1]

荣誉[edit]

棠村名列2018年度广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位（2019年9月公布）；该村是广东省爱卫会2023年5月评定的2022年度广东省卫生村之一。[1]
