夏街村是荔城街道内的城中村，紧邻增城区政府所在的城区，有7个经济合作社，常住约3700人。[1] 村内的夏街古驿道长约800米，是增城现存最古老的古驿道。[2]

村名的来历是：这里在县城下方，即城之南，原称「下街」，后来取谐音写成「夏」，寓意朝气蓬勃。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

博雅地名网记，村名在明洪武十八年（该网同时标注为1368年，两者不符）已叫夏街。1952年土地改革时称夏街小乡；1957年成立高级社，与今城丰一带合为年丰社；1958年成立人民公社时与槎岗拆分为两个大队，1962年合为一个大队，因大队部设在夏街村而称夏街大队；1983年11月恢复夏街乡，1987年1月撤区改镇，改设夏街村民委员会。[1]

经济[edit]

改革开放后，村里利用城郊的位置发展服务业。村里在开发区内临街位置预留了征地面积的15%作为自留用地，建商铺或厂房；各经济合作社已建综合楼15座、沿街商铺一千多间。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

夏街古驿道在村内迎恩街，由麻石铺成，形成于明清时期，沿线有通明桥、廻龙关、黎氏宗祠、天后宫等建筑和石王庙；石王庙在1985年成为增城县文物保护单位。广东省文物局2018年底把古驿道列入南粤古驿道的15处重大发现，2020年所在线路入选第一批广东省历史文化游径。[2] 另据博雅地名网，南宋振国大将军石文光是南庆隆埔（今夏街）人。[3]

荣誉[edit]

该村是广东省爱卫会2021年12月评定的卫生村之一。[1]
