地名由来[edit]

村旁有一座大山，村民在山南麓挖建一池塘，故名南塘。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

唐至清代，南塘分属永福乡新安里和安庆里。1950年设南塘大队，1956年改属敖江区。[1]

1958年7月，敖江区撤销，村改由敖江公社管理，并设南塘大队。1984年村设南塘村委会。1997年以敖江为界，村委会划归江南乡管辖。[1]

村民以务农为主，兼营手工业。县委党校设在村口。[1]
