竹子园村是博罗县杨村镇的行政村。[1]
名称与沿革[edit]
村委会上报的由来是：原来竹林成片，围住整个村庄，盼后人节节高升。另一说是，明末黄姓自惠阳大岚迁到麻陂宝溪黄泥岭，后连夜出走，以干竹作火把，走到此地竹子恰好烧尽，便就地过夜；次日见地方好，决定定居，客家话“完”与“园”音近，遂称竹子园。[1]
清代属苏州巡检司，1729年（雍正七年）归宁集；民国属显村圩清平乡，1955年为桔子区公所竹子园乡，1959年设竹径大队，1973年调整为竹子园大队；1990年起由竹子园村民委员会管理。[2]
荣誉[edit]
2019年9月，竹子园村被列为2018年度“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位。[1]
