历史沿革[edit]
1998年11月，怀集县政府以怀发〔1998〕20号文批准设立东园村村民委员会，而村委会就设在东园村，故以此为名。[1]
该村1958年编为生产大队，1983年11月改设乡，1987年又改为村委会，1989年4月起设管理区，1998年11月改称村民委员会[1]。
经济[edit]
村里筑坝建水电站，开发矿产；怀集县公开招标出让的大矿山东园矿山就在村境内。村道基本硬底化并装了路灯。山坡地种桉树，水田种水稻、花生，养猪、养鱼。[1]
