历史沿革[edit]
宋代金氏建村；到明末清初，村里发展出一条新的街道，于是定名新街。[1]
1951年土地改革时设新街乡，1956年建新街高级社，1958年公社化时为新塘公社新街大队；1983年改为新街乡，1987年设新街村民委员会；1991年，久裕村民委员会从新街村析出。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
村内祠堂街的陈氏祠堂，明嘉靖年间始建，1900年（清光绪二十六年）重修，正门额匾相传为湛若水手书，祠内遍施石雕、木雕、砖雕和灰塑。它列入2009年9月公布的第四批增城市文物保护单位。[2]
荣誉[edit]
新街村在2021年、2022年的淘宝村名单上有名字，2024年11月入选广州市充分就业社区（村）。[1]
