新民社区位于长安镇南端，与深圳市宝安区相邻，茅洲河从东北向西南绕过社区，辖区面积约2.3平方千米。[1]

社区下辖新兴、裕和、禄和三个经济合作社。据东莞市人民政府门户网站，社区户籍居民1223人，常住人口约5.4万人。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清朝末年，沿海渔民自顺德、番禺、中山等地迁来聚居。他们在1949年前生活并不固定，俗称「扎捞柴」；1949年后分得田地，并于1950年改名新民。[2]

1956年，陈李滩与陆丰围两处从乌沙划出，设新民乡；次年，泗兴围也从锦厦归入。1958年公社化后，此地成立新民大队，划归虎门远丰农场管辖。[2]

荣誉与发展[edit]

2023年，新民社区入选广东省「百千万工程」首批典型村，据东莞市人民政府门户网站，社区以此为契机推进环境整治与产业升级。[1]

2023年4月，新民社区列入「2022年广东省乡村治理示范村」创建单位名单；2023年11月，社区入选广东「百千万工程」首批典型县镇村。[2]
