新圩镇在广东省梅州市兴宁市南部，宁江下游，离市区21公里，东面与梅县区相邻，南面靠近五华县。全镇面积约117.79平方千米，辖1个社区、19个行政村。[1][4]这里以工艺品制造著称，镇政府设在新圩社区。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

新圩一带在1949年5月18日随兴宁解放而易手：三天后，游击队员刘方先、刘槐光等接收了国民政府的新兴乡公所，同年6月中旬，新圩区人民民主政府成立。[3]此后区划屡有调整：1950年4月，县内16区缩并为11个区公所，新圩列第10区，名水新区公所；翌年县分15区，新圩改列第九区，驻坭陂镇。[3]

1957年初，区撤销、小乡并为大乡，新圩建乡，下含8个小乡；1958年10月起称公社，先为管理委员会，1968年冬改革命委员会。[3]1978年4月，兴宁的公社由27个分设为43个，新圩一分为二，15个大队仍属新圩，另11个组成观丰公社。[3]1981年公社恢复管理委员会体制；1983年11月实行撤社并区，两个公社重新合一，为新圩区公所；到1987年冬，区公所改为镇人民政府，即今新圩镇。[3]

地名由来[edit]

据博雅地名网所载传说，早年此地无圩场，人们须到坭陂、畲坑、水口等地赶集，路途不便，附近居民便在宁江河畔自行交易，日久人多，形成新的圩场，称“新圩”。[1]

地理环境[edit]

镇域北接永和、径南，西靠坭陂，南邻水口，东面与梅县区畲坑相接，东部为丘陵，整体属半山区。[2]广梅汕铁路从镇南部穿过。[2]据概况页，全镇山地约12.3万亩，萤石、稀土和花岗石资源较多，并有一片约2.6万亩的省级公益林。[2]兴宁旅游八景之一的鸡鸣山，据该页记载在镇北部。[2]

人口[edit]

概况页记总人口41696人（约2002年前后）；2020年的第七次全国人口普查结果约为2.08万人，在兴宁市各街道乡镇中居第16位。[1][2]维基百科则记为34442人。[4]

经济[edit]

约2002年，镇内耕地21895亩，果园5199亩，柑橘类、荔枝、龙眼、沙田柚等水果共六十多个品种。[2]镇上以工艺品加工见长，有“工艺之乡”之称：十多家企业（鸿兴、东兴、兴达、建明等）撑起这一行，产品达上万种，2002年工艺品总产值1.1亿元。[2]当时已在圩镇西郊规划约100亩的工艺工业园区，东兴、鸿兴、建明、兴达、万兴五家企业先行入园，投资两千多万元，建成厂房一万三千多平方米。[2]同年全镇农村社会总产值为2.28亿元，人均收入3642元。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2021年1月，新圩镇被授予「2020年度广东省卫生城镇」称号。[1]下辖的大村、官峰、崇上三村分别因鸡枞菌、沙田柚、丝苗米入选广东省“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村，石崖村则在2021年被公布为第八批全国民主法治示范村（社区）。[1]
