长沙镇在广东省梅州市梅江区南部，梅江河畔，距梅州城区约10公里，镇政府驻长沙墟。东面是西阳镇，西面是程江镇，南面是梅南镇，北面是三角镇，东南与丰顺县龙岗镇交界；梅江河、206国道和广梅汕铁路在境内呈“川”字形排列。镇域面积约94平方千米，下辖1个社区和6个行政村。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清代，这一带叫罗衣堡。民国时期先后划作第八区（1931年）和罗衣乡（1941年，属第二区）。新中国成立初归梅南区管；1956年单立罗衣乡，两年后并入梅南人民公社，1961年另立长沙人民公社。人民公社1983年11月撤销，改设长沙区，1987年4月又改为长沙镇。到1988年3月，梅州市成立、县和区分设，长沙镇归入新设的梅江区。[2]

镇名的来历，据博雅地名网：梅江河道逐年积沙，沿岸形成大片沙滩，被叫作长沙坝，镇名由此而来。[1]长沙镇在解放战争时期是重要的革命据点，1987年被广东省民政厅列为革命老区。[1]

地理环境[edit]

镇域在梅江河两岸。概况页给出的数字是：全镇面积94平方千米，山地约11.6万亩；耕地共6456亩，水田占5344亩，其余1112亩为旱地（均为2004年末）。[2]

人口民族[edit]

2004年末，全镇登记3183户，总人口12142人，农业人口为10454人（2857户）。[2]第七次全国人口普查（2020年）的结果，博雅地名网记为8300人，在梅江区各街道乡镇中居第7位；维基百科记为9634人。[1][3]

经济[edit]

2004年，镇内设6个村委会（下辖106个村民小组）和1个居委会，有1所中学、7所小学。[2]维基百科称，2005年全镇工农业总产值为32770万元。[3]

荣誉[edit]

2020年7月，长沙镇被全国爱国卫生运动委员会命名为2017—2019周期的国家卫生乡镇（县城）。[1]
