荷花镇是广东省茂名市高州市西北部的一个镇，辖1个社区和18个行政村，镇人民政府设在荷花社区。[1]镇境处在粤桂两省区的交界地带，与信宜、北流、化州三市交界。[1]原名木头塘，1993年起称荷花镇。[1][2]2019年末全镇户籍人口60807人。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

荷花镇的前身是木头塘。据百度百科，1954年属茂名县第十六区；1983年改设木头塘区；1986年木头塘建镇，1993年镇名改为荷花。[1]博雅地名网所记的沿革与此大体一致，并记1958年建木头塘公社。[2]维基百科的说法略有不同：木头塘乡设于1957年，公社成立于1959年，镇建于1987年，其间1983年曾改为区，1993年后恢复荷花之名。[4]各书对公社、建镇的年份说法不一，此处并存。

关于地名，木头塘一名有两种解释：一说当地有一口大池塘，塘的西面长着一棵大树；一说得名于乡绅宅院「厚禄堂」，土语读音相近。[4]荷花之名，据博雅地名网，古时这一带的河边传统种藕，盛产莲子，夏季田里荷花盛开，梯田一片红色，曾被叫作红花坡，清同治年间称“贺花乡”，因“贺”与“荷”谐音而写作荷花。[2]维基百科则称，清代红花、贺石二乡合并，各取乡名中一字，成“贺花乡”，又因当地盛开荷花，书写时成了“荷花乡”。[4]

荷花镇位于高州市西北部，处于两广、四市、六镇的交界处：四市是信宜市、北流市、化州市和高州市，六镇是宝圩、清湾、大伦、镇隆、石板和北界。[1]全镇面积，百度百科记为108平方千米，[1]维基百科记为104.67平方千米，[4]中心坐标约北纬22°14′37″、东经110°41′51″。[4]

镇内丘陵连绵，属南亚热带季风气候。[3]凌江流经全境，沿河已建水电站3座。[3]省道仙松线自北向南贯穿镇境。[3]

2019年末，荷花镇户籍人口60807人。[1]第七次全国人口普查（2020年）的常住人口为3.95万，在高州市各街道、乡镇中位列第14位。[2]

据博雅地名网转述的镇情介绍，荷花镇是高州市水稻、竹子和木本水果的重要产区：荔枝、龙眼、香蕉、莲子、辣椒、速生桉等都有种植基地，水果种植面积3万多亩，蔬菜种植面积1万多亩。[3]全镇有各类企业400多家，产品涉及皮革制品、劳保手套、竹木器加工、工艺制品和建材。[3]

百度百科记有2018年的主要指标：全镇生产总值16.9亿元，比上年增长7%；规模以上工业总产值5.59亿元，增长9.5%；工业固定资产投资5.75亿元，增长25%；限额以上批发零售额1.2亿元，增长9%；居民银行存款余额8.19亿元，增长17%。[1]

镇内多个行政村以一种作物或产业为特色：平头岗村的沉香和茂山村的龙眼在2021年入选广东省第二批“一村一品、一镇一业”专业村；[2]详见平头岗村、茂山村。

教育方面，荷花中学、荷花一中和镇中心学校均为茂名市一级学校，4所小学为高州市一级学校。[3]

荣誉方面，荷花镇获「广东省依法治镇先进单位」等称号。2022年1月，被命名为「2021年度广东省卫生城镇」；2025年5月，列入「广东省“百千万工程”第二批专业镇」建设名单；2026年3月，被认定为「广东省第三批“百千万工程”典型村镇」。[2][3]
