东湖社区属汕头市澄海区凤翔街道，在澄海城区东北，南邻仙居，东邻外埔，面积1.2平方公里，是知名侨乡。[1]仙居原是它的一部分，1961年才分出去。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

此地原属海阳县下外莆都辟望，澄海建县后改属澄海县。[2]1946年它与外埔、信宁、港口、水沟尾（今昆美）合成秀水乡；1953年单称东湖乡；1956年至1957年东湖、外埔、宁美、港口又并为信宁乡。[2]1961年东湖一分为二，另立仙居，各有生产大队。[2]后来经居委会（1986年）、街道（1996年）到2002年的社区。[2]

据博雅地名网，社区有1830户7078人，分6个居民小组；塑料、玩具、五金、毛织产业兴旺，形成东湖工业区，2009年工业产值为10.83亿元。[1]
