华新村是汕头市龙湖区龙华街道下辖的行政村，原属外砂镇，地处新津河北岸[1]。村名来自1958年的一次分村：下埔村以老乡、新乡为界一分为二，新乡一半取名华新[2]。

历史沿革[edit]

村子所在的土地原是下埔村（今华埠村）的田园，历史上属滨海边防地带。据博雅地名网，清顺治十年（1653年）七月，郑成功的部队进攻鸥汀背寨时曾在此驻扎，村东侧至今仍称“营盘埔”[2]。

清光绪十三年（1887年），龙头、凤窖、凤美和下埔四处陈姓倡议，在下埔的“洽公田”上创建“洽公”乡，最早是下埔村民陈炳强等几户种田人家来此盖房耕作。1918年，下埔的陈、卢两姓又迁到附近的土尾洲定居，后来两处合成一乡，称下埔新乡。1958年，以老乡、新乡为界分为两个村，新乡改名华新村[2]。另一份概况称该村“始建于光绪丁亥年（公元1897年）”，与光绪十三年的丁亥年相差十年，两说未能核对[1]。

人口与经济[edit]

概况页记载，全村人口近2894人，约640户，设12个村民小组，耕地中水田120亩、旱地266亩。村里的经济由早年的纯农业转为工业、商业和运输业并重，有两家较大的企业和一批村民开办的毛织厂；该页同时给出2012年全村农业总产值为58万元[1]。
