村的前身是1949年的坪田农会，后来经过合作社、大队、乡和管理区几个阶段，1998年起由村民委员会管理[1]。

村情材料称村域山林约12000亩[1]。

荣誉[edit]

坪田村名列广东省2018年度民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位，2019年9月公布[1]。
