历史沿革[edit]
村名中的“新”相对老墟而言：新中国成立前坪田已有老墟，改革开放后另建了新墟，村名由此而来。博雅地名网把村名写作“新圩村”，南雄市人民政府网则作“新墟村”[1][2]。新墟在1956年设高级社，成为大队后又先后称乡、管理区，1998年改设村民委员会[1]。
经济[edit]
村里耕地1034亩、山林8984亩，农作以水稻和花生为主；村情材料还提到72户贫困户[1]。
名胜古迹[edit]
坪田镇政府称，坪田的古银杏树王（据称树龄逾1300年）就在新墟村的坳背[2]。2023年的报道把“坳背新墟”列为银杏观赏点之一[3]。
荣誉[edit]
新墟村进入国家林业和草原局2019年12月公布的第二批国家森林乡村名单；同年9月又名列广东省2018年度民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位；2023年5月，省爱卫会授予它2022年度广东省卫生村称号[1]。
