山口村是东山县陈城镇下辖的行政村，位于东山岛东南端，村内的自然村有顶赤山、下赤山、大路口、赤石与西湖。全村2590人，合641户，耕地2700亩，林地1700亩。[1]

地名[edit]

五个自然村的名称各有来历。顶赤山位于北面地势较高处，下赤山因在顶赤山下端而得名，二者都因村落建在赤色土垅附近。赤石因村前有一块赤色大石，西湖因村西有一湖，大路口则据说古时有一条大路通往「东京」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代此地属漳浦县安仁乡思政里，明代属漳浦五都，后经嘉靖九年的调整划归诏安县五都。清代雍正年间，这里归诏安县五都二图的浯龙保。清宣统二年，村落属诏安县自治区下区。[1]

东山建县后，村落属第三区；民国二十九年（1940年）属复兴乡的赤山保与大路保，民国三十五年改属东南乡。东山解放后属第二区，1956年归白埕区白埕乡。[1]

1958年设陈城公社山口大队，1984年改设陈城乡，恢复为山口村。[1]

自然环境与经济[edit]

旧时山口一带风沙为害，田园屡被掩埋，村民多外出谋生。解放后村民封沙造林，并以谷文昌精神为动力调整产业结构。[1]

村内引进芦笋种植，据村中所述是东山县第一个芦笋专业村；村中还据称是全县第一家集体鲍鱼场与第一家村级型砂场的所在地。[1]

文化教育[edit]

村中的小学曾被评为「福建省农村小学示范学校」，村设奖学金鼓励学生求学。[1]
