竹园村是福建省泉州市安溪县虎邱镇下辖的行政村，位于镇政府驻地偏南的河谷小盆地中，原称卓源，民国后因周围竹林茂盛改称竹园。[2][1]

村内的竹园溪将村落分为溪东与溪西两部分，村民主要为周、高、卢、陈等姓。[2][3]

地名由来[edit]

据村中传说，周氏远祖原姓苏，宋代迁居安溪衡阳；明洪武年间，其后裔回到安溪，在卓源定居，搭寮养鸭。后有人说此地须姓周才能得到，于是改姓周。因“卓源”与“竹园”音近，加上山麓竹林茂盛，民国后地名写作竹园。[2][3]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时期，此地是新康里的竹园保。新中国成立之初归西坪区的竹园乡，1958年编入西坪公社为竹园大队，1961年改隶虎邱人民公社；1984年，大队改称竹园村委会。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

村东南的一座小山头上有永圈寨遗址，地势险要，山寨曾被强盗占据，乡人设计骗开寨门后将其攻下；寨墙基址至今尚存。[1][3]

著名人物[edit]

中医学者周石卿（1918—1993年）出生于竹园村，别号磨不磷氏，曾任福建中医学院伤寒教研室教授。[1][4]

国家帆船队运动员陈秀梅出生于竹园村，1966年生，曾多次参加全国、亚洲及奥运会等帆船比赛。[1]

荣誉[edit]

近年村里获得的荣誉有：2021年12月，被确定为「2021年度福建省“一村一品”示范村」（铁观音）；2021年12月，被确定为「泉州市2019-2021年度市级“一村一品”专业村（乡镇）」；2022年1月，被认定为「安溪县2020-2021年度文明村镇」。[2]
