塘头村是龙山街道下辖的行政村，属城乡结合区。村名因村庄位于一座大池塘的头部而得名。[1][2]

名称由来[edit]

唐宋时期，村前原为海滩；明代经人工填海造地，村前形成一座大池塘。村庄位于池塘之头，故名塘头。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代属感德乡新安里，有龙溪境、端祥境，元代沿用。明代归西隅新安里图4，1910年为海口镇所辖。[1]

1943年分为10甲，设塘头保，属海口镇元龙乡；1950年归第2区柏渡乡，1952年改为塘头乡，1956年归海口镇柏渡乡。1958年分出另设塘头大队，划入海口公社；1984年起称村委会，归海口镇。2005年12月属龙山街道。[1][2]

荣誉[edit]

塘头村于2021年11月被福建省爱卫办列为「2021年福建省卫生村」。[1]
