塘头村在番禺区化龙镇中心，毗邻墟镇和镇政府，面积2.5平方千米，分塘头、村心街、西街、下街四片。村内有后山黄公祠等多处文物。^[1]^[2]

历史沿革[edit]

村名有两种说法：一说明代刘姓从草堂村的塘头迁来建村；一说村口原有十多口大塘，村人称之为鱼塘之冠。^[1]村开于明代；1949年成塘头乡，1961年改塘头大队并入化龙公社，1987年起由村民委员会管理。^[1]

2009年全村农业人口1451人、515户，工农业总产值1.56亿元，村集体纯收入87万元；种养面积1793亩，其中鱼塘356亩。^[1]

后山黄公祠在村心大街19号，始建于明崇祯元年（1628年），2008年12月，广州市政府将其列入第七批市级文物保护单位。^[2]村心二街横二巷7号的古民居建于清代，为「三间两廊」两层建筑，又名敬义堂。^[1]子荫路1号的番禺适庐是民国时的当铺，砖混结构，中西合璧。^[1]
