砚坑社区在金渡镇，地处羚羊峡南端，面积19.29平方公里，共分5个村民小组，人口664人，被称为金渡镇唯一的边远山区村[1]。
概况[edit]
山地2万多亩，多为石头山，村民靠林业为生。社区依法有计划地开采麻子坑的砚石，增加集体收入，近年又引进开发了紫云谷景区[1]。紫云谷景区地处省级自然保护区西江羚羊峡之内，评为国家3A级旅游景区，端砚的老坑、坑仔岩、麻子坑三个名坑都在其中[3]。端石老坑洞遗址是唐武德元年（618年）开凿的，2002年定为广东省文物保护单位[4]。
历史沿革[edit]
建国前属高要广利区，建国后属七区砚坑乡；1958年编入金龙公社，称砚坑大队，次年改隶金渡公社；1983年划归水口乡，1987年水口乡拆分为水口、砚坑两个村委会；1989年改为砚坑管理区，1998年管理区又改回村委会，2013年起设居委会[1][2]。
