历史沿革[edit]
据《广东省顺德市地名志》，明代已形成村落。河岸遍植红棉，原名红花洲，后改用同义的“赤”字，成为赤花。[2]此后，1952年设乡，1958年改作大队，1983年又改回乡，1987年起叫村，1990年成为管理区，2002年设立居委会，沿用至今。[1]

社区距广州南站约5公里，与南海、番禺相邻。共1645户，总人口5512人；一街、太和、吴家围、珠砂围各为一个居民小组，此外还有1个股份合作社。[1]
