社区总面积4.599平方千米，耕地2204.4亩、林地90.8亩，共3286户、18884人（年份未注明）。2013年工农业总产值123629万元，工业部分为121864万元，农业部分为1765万元，规模以上企业9家，农民人均的纯收入为8487元。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
社区原名“下尾村”，因处于山麓和练江边、地势低洼而得名；博雅地名网解释说，“下尾”是闽南福清话的叫法，族人至今保留福清话的某些音，与“华美”相谐，后来便称华美。南宋绍定三年（1230年），陈氏先人从福建莆田迁来，开创此村。[1]民国二十年（1931年）起，称潮阳县第六区华美乡；1958年编为生产大队，此后依次改为乡（1984年）、村委会、管理区（1988年），1999年改为居委会。[1]
华美是贵屿双忠祭典的重要祭拜点之一。[2]2017年10月，社区入选第一批广东省卫生村；2024年4月列入「广东省第一批乡村振兴示范村创建名单」。[1]
