社区面积2.78平方千米，耕地1602.9亩，下设两个经济合作社、22个居民小组，共1981户、10865人（年份未注明）。当年工农业总产值合计12004万元，工业部分为10659万元，农业部分为1345万元，人均的纯收入为3650元。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
元至正七年（1347年），先人从普宁龙门村迁来，建村名“北门村”；中华人民共和国成立前，邻近的北兜村并入北门村，改称北林村，名称由北门与林兜合并而来。1958年编为生产大队，此后依次改为乡（1984年）、村委会、管理区（1988年），1999年改为居委会。[1]
北林同样是贵屿双忠祭典的祭拜点之一。[2]2021年12月，社区获广东省爱卫会授予“2021年广东省卫生村”称号。[1]
