村民靠种养业和劳务输出谋生，种植水稻、花生、大豆、油茶和蔬菜。^[1]2009年村集体收入7000元，人均年收入4791元。^[1]

中岭自1949年设农会，其后1954年入初级社、1956年入高级社，1961年成大队，1988年成管理区；撤区建村在1998年，村民委员会延续到现在。^[1]
