村民收入主要靠水稻和林地，集体收入来自荒岭上的果树种植和毛竹抚育；村民的其他收入来源有辣椒、花生、油茶和毛竹。^[1]

水塘的建制从1949年的农会开始，经1954年初级社、1956年高级社，于1961年成为大队；1988年改作管理区，1998年撤区建村，设村民委员会至今。^[1]
