地名由来[edit]
明末，村民从雅瑶迁来，在基围下面建村，因而叫下基。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
解放初期归宁南乡。1956年立下基岗高级社，1958年的大队叫沙基大队，1974年改叫下基大队；1983年称下基乡，1987年起设下基村民委员会。[1]
经济与荣誉[edit]
博雅地名网所录资料称，村内约1308人，有华侨和港胞200余人；适宜种水稻、蔬菜、香蕉、甘蔗和荔枝，当地制作的马蹄粉远近有名。2021年11月获「2020年度“广州名村”」称号，2023年8月获「2022年度“广州市美丽乡村”」称号。[1]
