平潭社区位于惠阳区平潭镇镇中心，是镇上唯一的社区，社区居民委员会由原平潭管理区改称而来。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
社区的前身成立于1967年；1987年至1998年称平潭管理区，1999年改设社区居民委员会，沿用至今。[1]
地名由来[edit]
社区所在地原有一口深约十丈的水塘，泉水涌出，状如一面摊平的潭水。潭的两侧是小山岗，后人挖平山岗、填塘成地，建起店铺，由此得名“坪潭”，后写作平潭。[1]
